Mele Bruniard
Melé Bruniard (Reconquista, 1930 – Rosario, 2020), born Nélida Elena Bruniard, was a renowned Argentine woodcut printmaker and draftsman. She studied at the Instituto Superior de Bellas Artes in Rosario and trained in the workshop of Juan Grela. Member of the Agrupación de Grabadores Rosarinos and Grupo Taller, she also taught Printmaking, Drawing and Illustration at the Escuela Provincial de Artes Visuales “Manuel Belgrano”. Her work, rooted in childhood memories and creative imagination, is characterized by sharp lines, symbolic figures, labyrinths, and expressive imagery. Bruniard’s woodcuts were exhibited widely in Argentina and abroad, earning her prestigious awards, including the Alberto J. Trabucco Prize from the National Academy of Fine Arts (2000-2001). In 2012, the Castagnino+macro Museum presented a major retrospective of her work, which remains part of national and international museum and private collections.
