Yaya Firpo

Yaya Firpo (Victoria, Entre Ríos, Argentina, 1973) is a visual artist with a degree in Fine Arts from the “Dr. Raúl Trucco” School of Fine Arts. He trained in stage design at the Teatro Colón Institute and the Saulo Benavente Institute in Buenos Aires. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with major Argentine artists such as Fermín Erguía and Pablo Suárez, and was assistant to León Ferrari in 2003. He also served as artistic director for carnival parades in Entre Ríos. Firpo is best known for his collages created from maps and flags, which he meticulously cuts and weaves to form new symbolic cartographies. Through thin, obsessively interlaced strips, he constructs visual territories where traditional borders dissolve and continents like Africa, America, Asia, and Europe merge. His work challenges conventional ideas of identity, geography, and belonging, offering a poetic and political reimagining of the world.
