Guillermo Usandivaras

Guillermo Usandivaras (Salta, Argentina, 1897–1976) was a self-taught painter who brought modern expressive language to northwestern Argentina. Though he briefly attended the National Academy of Fine Arts, he was influenced by Jorge Bermúdez, Ignacio Zuloaga, and Emilio Centurión. He lived in towns such as Cachi, Molinos, and Iruya, drawing inspiration from local landscapes and cultures. Known for his expressionist style and local themes, he challenged traditional aesthetics in Salta. Usandivaras never held a solo exhibition and sometimes signed his work as Walter Mont. He received awards in Salta and Buenos Aires, including First Prize at the First Official Salta Salon and Third Prize at the National Salon of Buenos Aires (1972).
