Gary Vera
Gary Vera, born in Ecuador in 1982, is a visual artist and cultural manager whose work explores the links between social memory, human rights and art as public intervention. He holds a degree in Arts from the Central University of Ecuador and a postgraduate diploma in Community-Based Cultural Policies from FLACSO Argentina. He received the Brasil Emerging Art Prize in 2017 and the Fronteras CEDIC Grant in 2008. Vera has participated in exhibitions and residencies in Ecuador and Mexico. His practice focuses on public space as a site of political dispute and memory, using aesthetic strategies drawn from the cultural iconosphere. He sees art as both a memory practice and an anarchic possibility that reshapes interactions between individuals and social structures.
