Gracia Cutuli
Gracia Cutuli is a renowned Argentine artist and a pioneer of textile art. She studied at FADU/UBA and UNA and continued her training in France with Johnny Fridlaender and Pierre Francastel. Since 1963, she has designed tapestries and co-founded El Sol Gallery, the first in the Americas dedicated to textile art. In 1971, she became the first Argentine invited to the International Tapestry Biennial in Lausanne. Her work challenges the orthogonality of weaving and invites viewer interaction. Since 1994, she returned to painting and mixed media. She taught at FADU/UBA (1991–2002) and led the research project "Textiles as Transmitters of Culture." She has held over 300 exhibitions worldwide. Her major awards include the Platinum Konex Award (1982), the APA Lifetime Achievement Award (2017), and recognition as a Distinguished Cultural Figure by the Buenos Aires Legislature (2021).
