Carlos Penuti
Carlos Penuti was an artist active in Argentina around 1852, likely of Italian origin and possibly linked to Garibaldi’s legionnaires. He served as director of the mobile printing press of Urquiza’s army during the campaign that led to the Battle of Caseros. From that event, he created four notable lithographs based on sketches made from life during combat, considered among the most significant examples of early Argentine lithography. His work also includes a remarkable oil portrait of General Urquiza, held by the Historical Museum of Santa Fe, showcasing his strong command of drawing and color. The quality and expressiveness of his work secure Penuti’s place in 19th-century Argentine art history.
