María Martorell
María Martorell (1909–2010) was a pioneering Argentine artist from Salta, recognized for her contributions to geometric abstraction. Trained by Ernesto Scotti, she lived in Madrid and Paris, engaging with the Denise René Gallery and the kinetic and optical art movements. Her work gained prominence in the 1960s with the support of Jorge Romero Brest at the MNBA. She exhibited in New York, Caracas, Mexico, Chile, Colombia, and major Argentine institutions. In the 1980s and 1990s, she received numerous honors, including a MAMBA retrospective and the Artistic Merit Award from Salta. Her legacy was celebrated at ArteBA and the Salta Museum of Fine Arts after her death in 2010.
