Macaparana
Macaparana (born José Souza Oliveira Filho, 1952) is a self-taught Brazilian artist known for his refined geometric abstraction. He was born in the town of Macaparana in Pernambuco and held his first solo exhibition in Recife in 1970. Since 1973, he has lived and worked in São Paulo. His work has been shown widely in galleries and museums across Brazil, Mexico, France, Japan, the United States, and the United Kingdom. He has participated in leading art fairs such as SP-Arte (São Paulo), arteBA (Buenos Aires), Art Basel (Basel, Miami Beach, Hong Kong), FIAC (Paris), ARCO (Madrid), and ArtBo (Bogotá). His pieces are part of major public and private collections.
