Fikret Atay

Fikret Atay (b. 1976, Batman, Turkey) is a Kurdish artist based in Örebro, Sweden. His video work draws from life in his hometown of Batman, near the Turkish-Iraqi border—a region shaped by military intervention and political tension. Atay explores conflicts between East and West, tradition and modernity, military and civilian life. Working with minimal resources, he creates authentic yet enigmatic narratives through simple, direct visuals. His videos have been shown at institutions such as the Hammer Museum, Kunsthalle Wien, Centre Pompidou, and MACBA, and are part of collections including Tate Modern, Istanbul Modern, and Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris.
