Tiziana Panizza

Tiziana Panizza (Santiago, Chile, 1972) is a renowned Chilean filmmaker and academic. Her filmography includes the Visual Letters trilogy, consisting of the short films Dear Nonna: a film letter (2005), Remitente: a visual letter (2008), and Al Final: the last letter (2013). She is also the director of the documentary Tierra en Movimiento (2015), the children's short film La Isla de los Pájaros Sombra (2017), and co-director of 74 meters squared (2012). Her latest work, Tierra Sola (2017), premiered at Visions du Reel in Switzerland, has earned several international awards. Panizza's films have been showcased at major festivals such as Fid Marseille, Fidocs-Santiago, Lincoln Center (New York), Toulouse Film Festival (France), Bafici (Buenos Aires), São Paulo International Film Show, Media Arts Biennial, and Loop-Barcelona, among others. She holds a master's degree in Art and Media Practice from the University of Westminster, UK, and has led workshops at the International School of Film and Television in Cuba. She has completed artist residencies at the Bellagio Center for the Arts and Humanities (Italy) and the A-Residency for Artists in Antarctica. Panizza has authored several research papers on Chilean documentary cinema, including Joris Ivens in Chile: Documentary between Poetry and Critique and Recovery of Film Heritage in Easter Island. She currently teaches at the Faculty of Communication and Image at the University of Chile and the University of Valparaíso.
