Januario Jano
Januario Jano is a multidisciplinary visual artist whose practice spans sculpture, video, photography, textiles, sound installations, and performance. Holding a Master’s in Fine Arts from Goldsmiths, University of London, his work is deeply rooted in research. Jano explores the fragile balance between fiction and reality, reflecting on identity, home, and cultural memory within globalized societies. His projects challenge historical and contemporary narratives while investigating the production of culture and notions of the self.
He is the founder of Pés Descalços, a cultural and philanthropic collective in Angola that fosters artistic initiatives and promotes cultural reinvention. Jano also launched TEDxLuanda, contributing to Angola’s cultural transformation post-civil war.
His work has been featured internationally, including solo shows at Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery (London), Jean-Claude Maier Gallery (Frankfurt), and Standing Pine Gallery (Japan), and group exhibitions at the Museum of African Art (Belgrade), Tree Art Museum (Beijing), and Saatchi Gallery (London). He has received several accolades including the QSPA Honorary Mention, Deveron Projects Residency, and Art Laguna Prize.
