Delia Cancela

Delia Cancela (b. 1940, Buenos Aires) is an internationally recognized visual artist and designer. She studied at the National School of Fine Arts and was part of the Instituto Torcuato Di Tella in the 1960s. In 1965, she and Pablo Mesejean presented Love and Life at Galería Lirolay. She lived in Paris, New York, and London, where her work was featured in Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. Since the 1970s, she has blended art and fashion through performance-driven runway shows in Paris. In the 1980s and 1990s, she exhibited across Europe and Asia. Since 1999, she has been based in Buenos Aires, where she held a retrospective in Rosario (2000). She has participated in The World Goes Pop (Tate Modern, 2015) and Radical Women (Hammer Museum, 2017). Her work is in the Victoria and Albert Museum and MNBA. In 2018, the Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires dedicated a retrospective to her. In 2022, she presented Los pies en la tierra, los ojos en el cielo, pájaros en la cabeza at the Fortabat Collection. She has received numerous awards, including the National Award for Artistic Trajectory (2018).
