El Hortelano
Juan García Hortelano (El Hortelano) was a renowned Spanish writer of the 20th century. A key figure in Social Realism, his novels critically depicted Spanish society under Francoism. In 1959, he won the Biblioteca Breve Prize with Nuevas amistades, establishing his literary reputation. His most successful novel, El gran momento de Mary Tribune (1972), introduced humor into his work. Beyond novels, he was a poet, a translator of Boris Vian, and a literary advisor at Alfaguara. His legacy remains influential in contemporary literature.
