David Taylor

David Taylor is a distinguished abstract painter and writer, as well as Professor Emeritus at the University of Brighton. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, his work is known for its strong emotional expression and frequent references to the sea and landscape. Based in Brent, London, Taylor creates his abstract paintings using acrylics, applying multiple layers to achieve depth and movement. His dynamic process allows images to emerge and evolve throughout the painting. His work has been exhibited at Highgate Gallery and Hampstead School of Art and is featured in private collections across the UK. Taylor's passion for abstract art was influenced by his doctoral research on Russian revolutionary art (1905–1928), with a focus on Suprematism. He also developed a keen interest in post-war abstract expressionism and its contemporary influences. In addition to his artistic career, Taylor has been a leading academic. He studied at the Universities of Bath, Manchester, and the London School of Economics. He taught at the University of North London and the University of Brighton, where he served as Dean of the College of Social Sciences. He has also held visiting positions at City College, CUNY, New York, and the University of Sydney. His scholarly contributions include several books and over thirty peer-reviewed articles in academic journals.
