Wendy Red Star
Wendy Red Star (b. 1981, Billings, MT) is a Native American artist from the Apsáalooke (Crow) Tribe who lives and works in Portland, OR. Her work explores the intersections of Native American ideologies and colonialist structures, historically and in contemporary society. Red Star’s practice includes sculptures, videos, and installations, drawing on pop culture and conceptual art to create new dialogues about Native American perspectives. Red Star has exhibited at the Venice Biennale and is featured in major collections like the Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim Museum. In 2017, she received the Louis Comfort Tiffany Award and in 2020 was honored with the Julius Baer Prize for Latin American Women Artists. Her works are part of the MALBA in Buenos Aires and the Blanton Museum of Art in Austin, among others.
