Efacio Álvarez

Efacio Álvarez is a Nivaclé Indigenous artist born in 1988 in Yiclôcat, Paraguayan Chaco. His intricate black-and-white drawings, made with pens and markers, depict traditional activities such as hunting, fishing, and honey-gathering, while reflecting Nivaclé spiritual beliefs and their deep bond with nature. A member of the Indigenous art collective Artes Vivas, Álvarez uses visual art to denounce land dispossession and deforestation in the Gran Chaco. He exhibited his work in Nous les Arbres (Fondation Cartier, Paris, 2019), where his drawings were recognized for highlighting Indigenous perspectives on forest ecosystems and ecological resilience.
