Juan José Cambre

Juan José Cambre (Buenos Aires, 1948) is an Argentine visual artist whose work shifts between abstraction and figuration. Trained as an architect, he began exhibiting in the 1970s and was part of the "Nueva Imagen" movement, showing at the São Paulo Biennial (1985) and exhibitions in Caracas and Paris. In 1989 he introduced his iconic series of vessels, using repetition, color and monochrome as key strategies. In the 2000s, he focused on abstract, light-based landscapes derived from photographs. He has held solo shows at Fundación Klemm, Centro Cultural Recoleta, and in galleries in Costa Rica, Milan, and New York. He has received awards such as the Banco del Acuerdo grant (1981) and the Fortabat Prize (1993). He lives and works in Buenos Aires.
