Gabriela Bettini
Gabriela Bettini is a Spanish visual artist of Argentine origin whose contemporary art practice is grounded in an ecofeminist perspective. Her research interweaves ecology, memory, colonial history, and the landscape painting tradition, offering a critical revision of the historical representation of Nature and its role in shaping Western hegemonic thought and extractivist economic models linked to today’s socio-environmental crisis.
Through an analysis of art history and landscape imagery, Bettini explores how painting has reinforced cultural and economic colonization narratives. Her work poetically and politically connects colonialism and neoliberalism, informed by her personal history marked by the Argentine military dictatorship (1976–1983).
Her artworks are included in major international collections such as Museo Reina Sofía (Madrid), Jumex Collection (Mexico City), Sandretto Re Rebaudengo (Turin), CA2M (Madrid), BASMOCA (Saudi Arabia), and the Spanish Academy in Rome. She has exhibited at BIENALSUR, the European Parliament, Paço Imperial (Rio de Janeiro), TEA Tenerife, and Centro Cultural Borges, among others.
Recipient of awards from Fundación Banco Santander, Spain’s Ministry of Culture, the Community of Madrid, and DKV, she is represented by Sabrina Amrani Gallery (Madrid).
