Juan Becú
Juan Becú was born in 1980 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he lives and works. A self-taught painter, he trained in the studios of Miguel Harte and Nicola Costantino. He held his first solo exhibition, Caja de colores, at the Centro Cultural Recoleta in 2000. His work, moving between figuration and abstraction, draws on the gestural language of Argentine painting, in dialogue with references such as the 1960s Nueva Figuración movement and nineteenth-century traveling painters, addressing subjects such as portraits, landscapes, flowers and imaginary figures. He has held solo exhibitions at the Centro Cultural Recoleta, Galería Alberto Sendrós and Galería Nora Fisch, and has taken part in group exhibitions in Argentina, Ecuador and Spain, as well as being selected among the artists of the first edition of BienalSur in 2017. In 2007 he exhibited alongside Alejandro Bonzo, Max Gómez Canle and Nahuel Vecino at Galería Ruth Benzacar. His work is held in numerous Argentine collections dedicated to contemporary art.
