Paul Rosero Contreras

Paul Rosero Contreras (Quito, 1982) is a multimedia artist who works with speculative fiction, scientific information, and material experimentation. His work intertwines various epistemologies, from indigenous thought to the history of science, exploring themes such as geopolitics, reciprocity between species, environmental issues, and the possibilities for sustainable future scenarios. Rosero holds an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) and an Interdisciplinary Master's degree in Cognitive Systems and Interactive Media from Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. His work has received national and international awards and has been widely exhibited at prestigious venues such as the 57th Venice Biennale, Antarctic Pavilion, Italy; ZKM in Germany; the 5th Moscow Biennale of Young Art; the Quai Branly Museum in Paris; MAAT in Portugal; the Museum of History of Zaragoza, Spain; the H2 Art Center in Augsburg, Germany; the 11th and 15th Cuenca Biennials, Ecuador; the 1st Antarctic Biennale; the 1st and 2nd Biennials of the South in Argentina; and at SIGGRAPH 2017 in Los Angeles, among others. Rosero currently teaches and conducts research at the San Francisco de Quito University.
