Silvia Gurfein

Silvia Gurfein (Buenos Aires) is a multidisciplinary artist who began her career in theater, dance, and music, actively participating in Buenos Aires’ underground cultural scene from 1983. In 1996, she shifted her focus to painting, which became the core of her practice. Her work explores time as a material—an accumulation, erosion, or disappearance—through painting as a non-linear capsule of memory. In 2010, she created El texto de la obra, a writing workshop for artists. Since 2015, she also works as a curator. She has exhibited at Museo Moderno, Macro-Rosario, Proa, and CC Recoleta, and her work is held in public and private collections in Argentina and abroad. She has received numerous awards, including the Konex Foundation award for outstanding visual artist of the decade, the Salón Nacional, Klemm Prize, and Premio 8M.
