Born in Burgos, Spain, in 1986, Alán Carrasco is a Barcelona-based visual artist and doctoral researcher. With a strong academic background, he earned a degree as a Senior Technician in Artistic Photography from the Basque Country School of Art and Design (2007) and a degree in Art and Design from Escola Massana in Barcelona (2011). He also completed the Independent Studies Program at MACBA and pursued master’s degrees in Museum Studies and Critical Theory and Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
Carrasco’s artwork has been showcased in prestigious institutions, including MACBA, MUSAC, CAB, Sala Amós Salvador, Maus Contemporary (Birmingham), Whitebox Harlem (New York), and BIENALSUR. He has also exhibited at Lo Pati Art Center, Württembergischer Kunstverein (Stuttgart), and the Spanish Academy in Rome. His art often engages with cultural, political, and historical narratives, drawing attention to contemporary power dynamics.
Among his many accolades are the MAEC-AECID Grant for an artistic residency at the Spanish Academy in Rome, the MANGO Prize for Best Emerging Artist during Swab Barcelona Art Fair, and the Art Nou Prize for Best Solo Exhibition. His work is part of notable collections, including MACBA, MUSAC, and CAB.
