Estefanía Peñafiel

Estefanía Peñafiel Loaiza, born in Quito, Ecuador (1978), is a prominent contemporary artist based in France since 2002. A graduate of the National School of Fine Arts (ENSBA) in Paris, she completed the La Seine research program and the Post-diploma at ENSBA Lyon. Known for exploring themes of memory, history, and erasure, her work navigates the boundaries between visibility and absence. Peñafiel Loaiza has been honored with renowned residencies, including the Villa Médicis award from the French Academy in Rome (2020–2021) and the Moulin d’Andé CÉCI film writing residency (2023). Her art has been exhibited widely in Europe and Latin America, solidifying her influence in the global art scene.
