Alberto Lastreto

Alberto Lastreto is a visual artist and architect born in Buenos Aires and trained in Montevideo, whose work explores exile, identity, and memory. He studied at the University of Havana and the University of the Republic of Uruguay and lived in New York for 26 years before returning to Uruguay in 2006. His piece El Prócer earned him First Prize at the 53rd National Visual Arts Award "Hugo Nantes" (2008) and was selected for the 8th Mercosur Biennial (2011). He has exhibited in Uruguay, Argentina, the United States, France, Italy, and India, using video and digital manipulation to reflect on memory and national symbols in the context of socio political transformation.
