Silvia Rivas

Silvia Rivas, born in Buenos Aires on April 23, 1957, is a renowned Argentine artist who introduced video installation into her artistic practice in the 1990s. Her work has been part of significant collective exhibitions and she has represented Argentina at various international biennials. In 2001, she presented the 12-channel video installation Notas sobre el tiempo at the Centro Cultural Recoleta. Later, in 2004 and 2005, she exhibited Todo lo de Afuera at the Museum of Modern Art in Buenos Aires (MAMbA) and Pequeño Acontecimiento at the Telefónica Foundation Space. In 2010, Rivas showcased her Zumbido series at MALBA, which was later exhibited at Fundación Proa and the Castagnino Museum in Rosario. More recently, she participated in Migraciones en el arte contemporáneo at MUNTREF (2015) and presented Fuerza diagonal at Rolf Art Gallery in Buenos Aires (2019). Rivas has received several prestigious awards and fellowships, including the John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship (2001) and the Konex Award for Video Art (2012). Her work is part of major public and private collections, including the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid and MALBA in Buenos Aires. Silvia Rivas currently lives and works in Buenos Aires.
