After studying painting at Hong-Ik University in Seoul, she began developing textile collages and later evolved into three-dimensional installations, notably her cloth bundle works called bottari. She has interpreted themes of social connection and migration through meditative performances, videos, and interactive installations. She received the Anonymous Was a Woman Award in 2002 and has exhibited at major museums, including the Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid, the Hirshhorn Museum, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
