Daniela Ortiz
Daniela Ortiz (Arequipa, 1985) is a Peruvian visual artist who creates critical narratives addressing nationality, racialization, gender, and social class. Her work investigates colonial, capitalist, and patriarchal power structures. Recently, her projects have focused on the European migratory control system, examining its colonial roots and impact on racialized and migrant communities. Daniela’s practice also critiques the Peruvian upper class and its exploitative dynamics with domestic workers, using visual storytelling to challenge these power dynamics.
In recent years, Daniela has shifted towards manual and visual practices, creating ceramic pieces, collages, drawings, and children’s books that reflect a departure from Eurocentric conceptual art aesthetics. As a single mother and activist, she leads workshops, delivers talks, and actively participates in movements against institutional racism and migration control systems in Europe.
