The city of Lima is BIENALSUR

11/07/2019

The second edition of BIENALSUR 2019, the cultural event of contemporary art from Argentina to the world, opens on July 12 and 13 in Lima, Peru, with exhibitions at the Museum of Art of San Marcos, at the Peruvian North American Cultural Institute, at the MAC - Museum of Contemporary Art and at the Cultural Center of the Superior School of Fine Arts of Peru. In this way, the biennial reaches another point in South America in its unique cartography that will continue to unfold until November with exhibitions of 400 artists in more than one hundred venues - with which it works jointly and collaboratively - in 43 cities in twenty countries.

The International Biennial of Contemporary Art of South America opens four new venues of its cartography and broadens the range of artistic proposals around the world. On July 12 at the Mayor National University of San Marcos – Art Museum of  San Marcos of Lima at 7.00 pm the exhibition "(Re) Weaving the South” (“(Re) Hilvanando el Sur"), by Chilean artists N3TO, Fernanda López, Loreto Carmona and Felipe Lavin, curated by Inés Ortega-Márquez (ESP), will be presented. It is a project of four young Chilean artists trained in the first two decades of the 21st century, who reflect, from different perspectives, on the region and contemporary issues of the Southern Cone.

That same day, at 8:30 pm, the Peruvian-North American Cultural Institute will see "Art and Territory" in which visual artists such as Anna Bella Geiger (BRA), Lia Chaia (BRA), Gabriela Golder (ARG), Dora Longo Bahia, (BRA), Carla Zaccagnini (ARG), Matilde Marín (ARG), among others, resume the gaze on different phenomena in the landscape offering a critical or poetic perspective.

While in the MAC - Museum of Contemporary Art the associated exhibition "Giving shape to time. Contemporary views of pre-Columbian ceramics" will be displayed. Curated by Giuliana Vidarte, the work of the artists brought together in the exhibition updates the themes and pre-Columbian imagery and the original narratives of various communities, from contemporary perspectives that reflect on our conceptions of history, time and mythology.

Then, on July 13 also in the Peruvian capital opens the exhibition "Modes of seeing" at the Cultural Center of the School of Fine Arts of Peru, curated BIENALSUR, Diana Wechsler (ARG). From the selection of some pieces that make up the collection of traced designs from the National Sueprior Autonomous School of  Perú (ENSABAP), a selection of contemporary works will be exhibited in the room to confront these traditions. As a work in progress, the proposal aims to reflect on our "ways of seeing".

With its unpublished cartography, BIENALSUR erases borders, reflects with artists between the local and the global, works in collaboration and in permanent dialogue with the demands and interests of each venue in which the most diverse contemporary artistic proposals are displayed
