Gender-related issues such as violence and inequality will be part of the BIENALSUR 2019 curatorial axes through artistic proposals.
The problems that feminist movements have
placed on the agenda over the last time, including femicides, gender violence,
racial issues and the relational dynamics between women in various social groups
will storm into the BIENALSUR 2019 programme through a collective exhibition by
a group of Latin American artists who have approached these topics from diverse
perspectives and poetics.
With regard to curatorial works, the biennial’s free topic call avoids the conventional format by inviting artists and curators to conceive specific and original proposals following their pursuits, with no restraining topic. Therefore, once the submitted proposals are reviewed, the biennial’s curatorial team defines the central axes of each edition.
In this way, the various gender problems will
be one of the inescapable axes of the 2019 programme, thus placing the artistic
universe as one of the soundboards of the most topical issues of society, while
paying heed to the popular American slogan that asserts that the future is
female.
Memory, migrations, the future, borders and
utopia are other thematic axes in the programme of BIENALSUR 2019, which will
take place between June and October.
